Clubs & Activites

Clubs and activities are provided to give students a well rounded experience at Glenbrook Middle School. All clubs are open to all grade levels, and run all year long.

A Cappella

Ms. Grady (Thursday Mornings - 7:45 - 8:25)

A Cappella is an auditioned singing group that meets once a week before school. We sing popular music chosen by the students without the use of instruments. A Cappella is only about 20 members and has 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Auditions will be held after school on Tuesday 9/27 and Thursday 9/29! Students must prepare a song that they enjoy singing (or beatboxing) and come to one of the audition dates. More information will be heard in the announcements.

Art Club

Mr. Griffin (Thursdays from 3:00 - 4:00)

Here at Glenbrook Middle School students are fortunate to have art embedded in their curriculum with each student taking art for 1/3 of each year. Despite this offering many students want more exposure to the arts and more opportunity to create art in a structured environment. Art Club will provide this by allowing students the opportunity to capitalize on the excitement they’ve experienced in their art classes. By increasing a student’s access to art, Art Club helps students develop a greater sense of who they are as artists and as members of their creative community.

Builder’s Club

Ms. Ranahan and Ms. Yacovone (Tuesdays 2:50 - 3:30)

The Builder's Club is a group of students who provide community service to Glenbrook and local community projects. It is a great way for students to give back to Glenbrook and their community.

Chess/Game Club

Mr. Wills (Tuesdays from 2:50 - 3:40)

Grades 6-8: Meet in Mr. Wills room and enjoy a game of chess, your choice of board games, or card games. Learn new games and teach others your favorite games. All are welcome.

Drama Club

Ms. Crandall and Ms. Grader (Every other Wednesday from 3:00 - 3:30)

The Glenbrook Middle School Drama Club will give students an opportunity to participate in supervised creative dramatic activities including a final production. Students will be exposed to different aspects of theater including impromptu skits, vocal music, dance, costume design, set design, props and tech crew. The club will work on creative thinking skills, encourage teamwork, and provide students with learning experiences in the area of performing arts.

Intramurals

Ms. Gallo (Tuesdays afternoons, 2:50 - 3:45, for 6th graders

Thursday mornings, 7:50 - 8:25, for 7th and 8th graders)

Intramurals are twice a week after school from 2:50-3:45 in the gym. This year 6th graders will have intramurals on Tuesdays while 7th and 8th graders will have intramurals on Thursdays. In intramurals we play sports and games that are covered in PE but in a more competitive atmosphere. Each month we will switch the activity that we will be doing.

Jazz Band

Mr. Murphy (Tuesday from 2:50-3:45)

The Jazz Band is an auditioned ensemble that meets after school on Tuesdays, from 2:50 - 3:45 PM. During this hour you will learn what “Jazz” is, how it is important to the American culture, and how to perform in this style of music on your instrument. Of all the ensembles at GMS, the Jazz Band performs the most. These performances include the Winter and Spring Concerts, Longmeadow Days, & the Elementary Schools Tour. If you are interested in auditioning for jazz band, music can be found outside of Room 36 (Band Room).

Math Counts

Mr. Zimora (Wednesdays from 2:50 - 3:30)

Math Counts is a national Middle School program that encourages students to increase their math skills through learning and competition. Students meet weekly, Wednesdays after school for practice (If you are in Student Council, you will be given the questions and be able to meet Mr. Zimora on Fridays after school that week).

A practice session includes working on unique problems with friends. Top students compete in regional, state and national competitions. Having math as your best subject is not required to join! All you have to have is a desire to learn and be willing to do what it takes to become better.

News Station Club

Mrs. Salvon

Grades 6-8: meets after school on the 2nd & 4th Monday of the month in Computer Lab, Room 31. Reporters, photographers, creative writers and artists wanted for our online Glenbrook News Network: WGNN! We will complete at least one NewsFlash (newscast) per trimester. News Station Club members will brainstorm what they would like to investigate and report in the newscast. Students will be responsible for creating a calendar of school wide events and will be assigned to investigate school club news & activities at all grade levels.
